The Great Bend Housing Authority High Rise at 1101 Kansas Ave. is an income based apartment building funded by the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).
The High Rise has 95 apartments which are mostly studio and one-bedroom apartments. Families must meet income guidelines and pass a background check before being determined to be eligible for the program. Once approved to live in the High Rise, the rent is approximately 30% of the household income and utilities are provided at no cost. Residents pay for cable and phone expense if desired.
Number of persons in the household
The facility is locked each evening, weekends and holidays to ensure safety for the residents. Apartments are unfurnished, carpeted, stove and refrigerators are provided and coin operated laundry is available.

What happens after I apply for Public Housing?
Your application will be put on the waiting list and you will be contacted when you approach the top of the list. At that time it will be determined if you are eligible for the program.
How long is the waiting list?
Currently the waiting list is approximately a month for a studio apartment and about three months for a one bedroom apartment. However these times vary.
How do I know if I am eligible for Public Housing?
To be eligible, the applicant
must be a U.S. citizen or have eligible immigration status. The applicants must also be at or below the income guidelines listed on this page. Applicants are also screened for criminal history prior to admission to the Public Housing program and they must provide proper documentation to verify eligibility requirements as
requested. These original documents will include, but are not limited to: Social Security cards, photo identification, verification of all forms of household income and assets. The Housing Authority will notify you when your determination of eligibility is completed.
